The Star

A common image and symbol we see at Christmas is that of a star. In scripture, the star of Bethlehem was a sign that appeared at the birth of Jesus. It was seen by shepherds and wise men, who were led by it to the baby Jesus. This piece is built around the “Star of Wonder” motif that is heard within the carol “We Three Kings”. It is heard as both ethereal and majestic. Additionally, the carol “O Little Town of Bethlehem” to the tune of Forest Green is presented as a gathering moment. The star was leading many to the Manger Scene to see the newborn King.

The final section can be a portrayal of our modern day. The Star now exists as a symbol within us. And it still leads people to the manger. Quotes to “Do you see what I see” are heard, and the music is filled with excitement and anticipation. The final verse of “O Little Town” is briefly presented and is a united statement of our Christmas celebrations today!

O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray,
Cast out our sin and enter in,
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Immanuel!
